NESS SAFETY REGULATIONS 2007
INSHORE & SHORT COASTAL RACES HELD IN DAYLIGHT

ISAF category 4 shall be applied to all boats with the NESS prescription as follows:

Strongly recommended (SR) means that a regulation has not been deleted but that a boat cannot be protested if that regulation has not been complied with.

The following regulations are prescribed as SR:

3.08/1-4 Hatches and companionways
3.09/1-8 Cockpits
3.12 Mast Step
3.14 Pulpits, stanchions, lifelines
3.18 Toilets
3.19 Bunks
3.27 Navigation lights
4.01.2 Sail numbers on dodger
4.07 Flashlight with spare bulbs and batteries
4.08.4/5 First aid training
4.10 Radar reflector to comply with ORC special regulations
4.12 Safety equipment location chart
4.13 Echosounder
4.18 Retro reflective
4.22.4 Retro reflective
4.23 4 red hand, 2 orange hand and 2 white hand held flares
4.24 Heaving Line
4.26 Storm & heavy weather sails

The following equipment shall be carried by all boats (this is a summary only of the mandatory equipment to be carried).

3.23 One Manual bilge pump & one bucket & lanyard
3.24 An accurate marine manual compass
3.28 Adequate engine (see category 3)
3.29 VHF & emergency antenna or watertight hand held VHF VHF
4.01 Sail numbers.
4.03 Soft wood plugs
4.05 One Fire extinguisher
4.06 One Anchor with suitable warp
4.08 First aid kit & manual
4.09 Foghorn
4.11 Suitable charts of area
4.16 Tools & spare parts and a means of severing rigging
4.22 Lifebuoy
4.23 2 red hand held flares and 2 orange smoke flares
4.25Cockpit knife
5.01 Lifejacket or adequate personal buoyancy

Competitors shall be directed by the Race Officer for the use of lifejackets and adequate personal buoyancy.
